Cut Flowers & Plant Care

We want you to get the most out of your gift/purchase, so here are a few tips to help you make them last longer...

CUT FLOWERS

SELECT THE RIGHT CONTAINER
Select a non-metallic container that suits the height and type of flowers. This is crucial to enable proper support and hydration. Ensure the container is clean and fill it ¾ full of fresh tap water.

USE THE FLOWER FOOD
Flower food has been scientifically developed to prolong the life of your flowers so make sure you use it. The food will normally contain nutrients to feed your flowers, an acidifier to neutralise the water’s pH level and a sterilising agent to eradicate bacteria. Follow the instructions on the packet for best results.

REMOVE LOWER FOLIAGE
Remove foliage from each stem that will be below water level. This prevents decay of foliage in the water.

CUT (AND RE-CUT) THE STEMS
To enable your flowers to take up as much water as possible, you’ll need to cut the stems daily. To get the best cut, use a sharp knife or scissors and cut at an angle. This will give the stems more surface area to take up water. Never use blunt blades as these can damage the stems. When re-cutting your stems take this opportunity to remove any wilted foliage and faded blooms.

REFRESHING YOUR FLOWERS
To refresh flowers after 2-3 days, remove any drooping flowers or foliage, re-cut the stems, clean the vase thoroughly and replace them in fresh water. This simple practice can help extend the vase life of your flowers.

CHOOSE WHERE TO DISPLAY YOUR FLOWERS
Finding the perfect environment for your flowers will help them flourish for longer. Always display your blooms away from direct sunlight, draughts and heat sources such as radiators.

HANDLE WITH CARE

Lily pollen may stain. Carefully remove stamens from any newly opened flowers and avoid direct contact.
We recommend that you do not place your flowers or plants on an unprotected surface.

TAKE CARE WITH CHILDREN AND PETS
Some flowers and plants can be harmful if consumed. Lilies, both the petals and pollen, can be extremely toxic to cats. Care should be taken to keep all flowers and foliage out of the reach of children and pets.
